The DRC in general and the territory of Rutshuru in particular have experienced dark
moments in their history plunging the population into vulnerabilities of all forms. Since 1996, the Territory of Rutshuru has been experiencing repeated wars.
In 2008 the CNDP imposed its rebellion, the territory of Rutshuru of which did not escape the consequences. From these unfortunate events resulted in the deterioration of the economic fabric of populations accompanied by serious human rights violations, the resurgence of sexual and gender-based violence, the destruction of the environment in general and of protected areas in particular. In the meantime, international organizations have intensified training on the accompaniment or care of victims of sexual violence, while insisting on the medical aspect also of committees which tried to alleviate the problems and the exaggerated threats of the environment.
Faced with these problems, the initiatives put in place were ineffective following the
inadequacy of the means and ethics for a good continuation of the actions of defense and lobbying. To this is added the backward traditions and customs as well as the ignorance which constitute an obstacle to development.
After Four years of intensive service on Peace and reconciliation on the territory of Rutshuru, analyses have shown that the apparent and hypocritical peace in the territory of Rutshuru is threatened by the destruction of the environment by carbonization, excessive deforestation, poaching and other threats continue. Violations of rights are still at an all-time high and the various forms of violence against women remain undisclosed. The non-rational use of natural resources, the failure of local committees to dialogue with local populations and the military, the difficulties in accepting social inclusion, the reintegration of child soldiers and militiamen into community life, and poverty in households are all major challenges we face today.
This has led us to expanding our work to neighboring countries and in the East Africa community in the framework of service for peace on the peace, legality, equality and environmental protection without borders program. In implementing these changes, members based in both Uganda and DR Congo elected to change our name from AMANI KWETU to AMANI KWETU INTERNATIONAL in AFRICA (AMI AFRICA).
